Summer is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation from Baron, Oklahoma, and serves as the Next Gen Manager for the Indigenous Food and Agriculture Initiative. She received a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Arkansas in 2012 and served her Tribal government in construction project management capacities prior to returning to the University of Arkansas in 2018 to pursue a master’s degree. In returning to the University, she quickly began engaging with Indigenous students and seeking ways to improve their experience. She’s passionate about Indigenous student success in higher education and community-based projects to preserve culture and language in the Cherokee Nation.
