John VanPool
Associate Director of Policy, Research, and Tribal Governance

As the Associate Director of Policy and Governance, John assists with the development of IFAI’s policy analysis and tribal governance strategy.
He previously served as the Director of Government Affairs for the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, advising on legislative and policy initiatives at the Tribal, governmental, state, legislative, and Congressional levels. During the pandemic, he worked as an advisor to the Tribe’s CARES and ARPA committees. Prior to this he was the Assistant Director of Public Information, helping shape the Tribe’s internal and external communications strategies.
He has previously served as a Tribal Government Liaison for the Federal Emergency Management Agency out of the FEMA Region VIII office. John holds an MA in International Relations from the University of Kent’s Brussels School of International Studies, and a BA in History from the University of Central Oklahoma.
